The Beginning is a Very Good Place to Start

This is where it all began...a closer relationship with my mother-in-law, a simple pattern, and an obsession. About nine years ago, I asked my mother-in-law to teach me to cross-stitch. She has/had the most beautiful collection of pieces she stitched through the years. We lost her suddenly a little over four years ago, but her collections still remain on the walls of the home. She was thrilled that I had taken an interest. I made a little excursion down to our local stitching shop and asked the shop owner what would be fun and simple to learn the basics of cross-stitching. I chose this piece by Shepherd's Bush. Aida was the fabric of choice because that is what she used to stitch. She started me with a few simple tasks and told me when I was through, to bring it back and we'd move on. Well, I had it down and surprised her when I returned with the piece completed. Since then, I have moved on to linen and various other embroidery techniques. It's a love affair. I love dainty pieces. I love old sampler pieces. My hope is to further my stitching journey by designing my own pieces. We shall see where my dreams lead me...
